The IMEI lock explained and how it protects IoT devices

22.09.2020 When configuring an Endpoint (via the emnify Portal or the RESTful API), emnify customers have the possibility to activate the IMEI lock. The IMEI is a unique serial number that the manufacturer assigns to cellular devices to identify devices connected to a GSM network. The IMEI lock option allows emnify users to lock the use of a SIM specifically to a device, indicated by its IMEI number. That way, even if an attacker has gained access to your device, there is no possibility to misuse your SIM by inserting it into another device.

4G vs 5G: What’s changing for IoT connectivity?

02.09.2020 – Knowledge Hub

Although 4G / LTE networks are yet to have full global coverage, 5G technology is already advancing. The first 5G radio masts have been installed across multiple countries, ready to supply the world with a new high-speed network. However, what is the difference between 4G vs 5G and can the 5G standard meet its own requirements? To really understand 4G vs 5G we must take a look at the core of 5G and make necessary comparisons with 4G.

Internet of Medical Things (IoMT) - Three smart scenarios

20.08.2020 –

Human health directly or indirectly influences every aspect of modern life – a healthy population translates to a healthy community, society and economy. Financial, socio-economic, political and cultural differences significantly impact the state of a nation’s public health. However, regardless of these differentiators, the potential of healthcare IoT is extremely promising.

emnify is First to Announce 5G Roaming for IoT/M2M Access

17.08.2020 – Newsroom

Leading cloud-native IoT connectivity provider emnify announces 5G access to enterprise customers based on its own direct roaming integration. emnify customers with 5G modems can now roam on Taiwan FarEasTone (FET). As the first cloud based, independent IoT/M2M connectivity service provider to announce 5G roaming implementation, emnify delivers on its vision to enable groundbreaking IoT solutions worldwide, by accelerating universal access to global IoT connectivity.

What is Industrial IoT?

15.07.2020 – Knowledge Hub

Unlike consumer IoT devices, industrial IoT devices are generally used in B2B applications to increase efficiency. And while IoT security is always a concern, it’s crucial in IIoT, where data transmissions often involve sensitive business-critical data.

EMnify now supports configurable DNS settings for IoT device groups

13.07.2020 –

At EMnify, a security-first approach is the foundation of the development of our platform features. This is reflected in our solutions which enable TLS on A2P SMS, the integration of your IoT devices with your VPC via CloudConnect, and multiple software and physical measures undertaken to prevent SIM misuse. The addition of configurable DNS settings for device groups allows for end-to-end control of the networking settings of your devices. Aside from providing further options for using alternative public DNS services, device fleets can now be restricted to use private DNS services which do not expose DNS query logs or internal server IPs, and may be configured to drop internet access for hardened security-first IoT infrastructure.

Seven Smart Ways to Use Cellular IoT in Application Development

08.07.2020 – Knowledge Hub

When comparing cellular IoT software development with previous classic development scenarios, developers in today's IoT era are faced with new and complex technical and methodological challenges that can be difficult to recognize at first glance. Ensuring software quality can quickly become a hurdle. Incorrect architecture decisions lead to software and security risks that can be difficult to maintain. The consequences: high costs and reduced competitiveness.

Webinar recap: How to select the best battery for your IoT devices?

06.07.2020 –

For our recent webinar in EMnify IoT Series we have invited Isabelle Sourmey from Saft. Saft is a French battery manufacturer, with a Connected Energy Division that specializes in IoT batteries. In this webinar Isabelle gives an overview of battery technology, starting with the components of the battery and explaining which requirements a battery for cellular IoT needs to fulfill - and where there are pitfalls when selecting the right one.

Three Smart Ways to Use Cellular IoT in Manufacturing

01.07.2020 – Knowledge Hub

IoT in manufacturing - the product of the IoT and Industry 4.0 IoT in manufacturing is one of the most future-oriented technologies for the industry. It bundles together two digitization strategies – the Internet of Things and Industry 4.0. The product of these two technologies is the Industrial Internet of Things (I-IoT) – the IoT for industrial manufacturing. It combines machines that can learn with big data technologies, sensor technology and automation technology that already coexist in an industrial environment. The closer networking of the digital world of machines creates the potential for profound changes in global industry and many areas of private and social life.
