About Osprey

Osprey is one of the UK’s leading rapid EV charging networks, operating 1,400+ public charge stations across England, Scotland and Wales. Founded in 2016, it has grown from a six-charger local initiative into one of the country’s fastest-expanding providers, with nationwide coverage and large multi-bay hubs.

From Complexity
to Control

To support its rapid growth, Osprey Charging Network partnered with emnify to improve connectivity reliability, visibility and operational control across more than 1,400 charging stations.

As the network expanded, managing multiple providers and fragmented platforms made it difficult to maintain oversight and ensure compliance with the UK’s Public Charge Point Regulations 2023. Introduced in late 2023, these regulations require operators of rapid and ultra-rapid chargers to keep their networks available 99% of the time and provide annual reportingmaking reliable, real-time monitoring mandatory.

Osprey needed a single platform that delivered centralized control, direct API integration and real-time connectivity insights, simplifying operations while guaranteeing regulatory compliance.

Challenge 1

Fragmented Connectivity: Operational and Compliance Challenges

As Osprey scaled, managing multiple connectivity vendors created complexity. Each provider’s portal reported usage differently and at inconsistent intervals, making troubleshooting slow, uptime hard to verify, and compliance difficult to prove.

Without a unified view, Osprey’s team often worked with incomplete or delayed information, creating operational headaches, unnecessary site visits, and unreliable reporting for the Public Charge Point Regulations 2023 (99% annual reliability standard).

Solution 1

Unified Visibility for Operations and Compliance

Osprey adopted emnify’s platform for centralized SIM management, gaining real-time connectivity insights directly into its internal systems.

With Data Streamer feeding continuous usage data, the REST API enabling workflow automation and compliance reporting, and Status Page notifications providing proactive Slack and email alerts, Osprey now has both the operational visibility to react quickly and the reporting confidence to prove compliance.

Services used:

  • Data Streamer: Provides real-time connectivity insights, including device status, usage and key events across all networks.
  • REST API: Enables direct integration of connectivity data into Osprey’s internal systems and automation of operational workflows.
  • Status Page notifications: Provide proactive Slack and email alerts on operator network outages, helping Osprey respond quickly and minimize downtime.

Impact: Faster troubleshooting, fewer site visits, improved uptime, and clear, auditable proof of compliance with the UK’s 99% reliability standard.

With its charging network stabilized both operationally and from a compliance standpoint, Osprey turned to the next challenge: preparing its sites for a broader range of connected devices beyond EV chargers.

Challenge 2

Expanding Beyond EV Chargers

The next priority was scaling hub infrastructure beyond EV chargers. Industry-wide issues such as cable theft have put greater emphasis on security, making CCTV, alarms and remote monitoring essential.

Beyond security, Osprey also wanted the flexibility to connect additional IoT applications as sites grow - all of which require the same reliable, real-time connectivity and observability as their chargers.

Solution 2

Connectivity Foundation for IoT Security and Future Devices

Osprey is deploying routers equipped with emnify connectivity as the communications backbone for entire charging hubs. This allows not only EV chargers but also site-wide security systems and future IoT applications, to operate reliably on the same platform.

Services used:

  • Multi-network connectivity to ensure resilience for both chargers and IoT devices
  • Flexible data plans to match different device usage needs
  • Future-proof network infrastructure to support security systems today and additional IoT use cases tomorrow.

Impact: Stronger site security, reduced risk from cable theft, and a scalable foundation for future IoT innovation.

Impact

With emnify, Osprey has transformed how it manages connectivity across its nationwide charging network.

Operations are now streamlined through centralized control across multiple providers, giving the team greater reliability and visibility to ensure compliance with the UK’s 99% uptime regulation.

The result is stronger customer confidence, with drivers benefitting from consistently available charge points across the country.

At the same time, Osprey has laid a scalable foundation for growth.

By extending the same connectivity platform to site-wide security systems and future IoT applications, the company is strengthening site resilience today while preparing its hubs for the demands of tomorrow.

By partnering with emnify, Osprey gained highly reliable, real-time connectivity that reduces operational complexity, ensures compliance, and supports innovation - setting a new standard for EV charging excellence in the UK.
